Lights, Camera, Action! All Week Long!

March 6, 2010

Whew!  It’s been quite the video week for me!  On Monday my dad and I made a video for Standing Sun’s Sermon Spice account.  I wrote the script, based on an idea Natalie had, and acted in it along with my dad.  Let me tell you, it’s such an awesome thing being able to work with your father in something you both love to do!  The video, entitled Distracted Prayer is done and available on SermonSpice.com.  Check it out! http://www.sermonspice.com/product/31380

Here’s some quick pics from set:

After that, I had a break for a couple days, and then on Friday Dad and I went up to the Telluride Regional Airport and spent all day shooting footage for a promo video we’re doing for them.  The weather left something to be desired in the morning, but in the late afternoon the clouds finally broke and we had gorgeous blue skies the rest of the day.  We got some awesome footage, and got to shoot from right next to the runway as planes landed and took off.  It was an amazing experience, and we’ve got many more fun days of shooting to look forward to, as we’ll be going back and getting footage from throughout the year.

And finally today, Natalie and I went to the Life Choices Family Resource Center in Montrose to interview their staff and clients for a new promotional video for them.  I thought it was going to be an all-day shoot, with 10-15 interviews to do, but the staff really had their act together and we were done in a few hours.  I was actually feeling bad for keeping them waiting while we set up!  We’ll be going back next week for some pick-ups of some people that couldn’t make the shoot today.  Let me tell you, if I thought working with my dad was good, being able to work with my wife is a whole different level of special.  I was so blessed to have Natalie there helping me out.  I can’t begin to describe how wonderful it is to work closely with someone you love. ^_^

So, as you can see, it’s been a busy week for me!  It’s been awesome to be able to do so much video work this week, and I hope to do much more in the coming weeks and months!

I’m back!… Again!

February 26, 2010

I have mentioned that I’m a terrible blogger, right?  Here it is, over half a year since I last blogged even though I’ve so much stuff to talk about!

In August, Natalie and I started a film and fashion accessories company, Standing Sun.  Natalie’s been making and selling Celtic purses, and I’ve… well, I’ve been doing what I can with video. :-P   Before I get on to what I’m doing, go check out Natalie’s purses on Etsy.com.  I’ll wait for you to return.

Back?  Ok, now for me. ;-)

In early August, I attended the 2009 Rocky Mountain Christian Filmmakers Camp.  The instructor was Norton Rodriguez, an awesome pro filmmaker who’s on fire for the Lord, and a fantastic teacher.  At the camp, we made a short film from concept to rough-cut edit entitled Hearing God.  Each student directed a different scene.  Hearing God tells the story of a young woman with otosclerosis finding herself suddenly going deaf.  I had the pleasure of playing the part of her brother.  Norton will be teaching the next camp at May 16 – 21, 2010, and I highly encourage any of you filmmaker readers to attend!  Go to ChristianFilmmakersCamp.com for behind the scenes videos of Hearing God and to register for the 2010 camp.

If you’ve been watching my YouTube channels, you’ll see I haven’t really been doing much on there for the past couple months.  I’ve been taking a sabbatical from YouTube while I try to get work in the Real World.  I’m sure you know how it is, right? :-P   I’ve gotten a couple local PA/Grip jobs, but not too much else for other people.  My dad and I made an entry for ChristianFilmmakers.org‘s 12-Hour Holiday video contest called “Time” which is available on SermonSpice.com.  We’ll be shooting another video for SermonSpice next Monday.  This one’s called “Distracted Prayer”, and is based on an idea that Natalie had.  I’ll keep you posted on that once we start shooting.

I’m also in Pre-Production for a couple other big projects.  One is a promo video for the Life Choices Family Resource Center in Montrose.  The other is Standing Sun’s first short film, entitled Sir Magnus and the Dragon.  It’s about an old knight that is tasked with saving a village from a hungry dragon.  Unfortunately, Sir Magnus would rather read than do knightly deeds, and is ill-suited for the task.
We’re planning on beginning principal photography in the Spring/Summer of this year.  We’ve gotten a wonderful artist, Joanna Coleman, to design Summermir the Dragon and she’s produced some fantastic artwork for t-shirts that you can pick up at our SpreadShirt store to show your support for the film.  We will also take direct donations at the film’s ChipIn page.

Lord willing, I’ve got several more projects on the horizon.  I’ll be trying to blog on a much more regular basis now (call it a New Year resolution), so stay tuned!

I Am Special… no wait, it’s called Am I Special.

June 11, 2009

I’ve been cast in the part of Random 304 in Arizona Dream Production’s upcoming short film “Am I Special.”  It tells the story of Jess, the youngest of three, who feels pressured to be exactly like her oldest sister, Amy. In her attempt to break away from the mold being thrust on her, she turns to the Internet and chat rooms. On a chat room, she meets a really nice guy who calls himself Random 304 (played by yours truly). He seems to actually care about her as a person and she becomes close to him. When he suggests a meeting in person, she readily agrees.

Shooting begins next Wednesday.  I’ll try to vlog regularly, so be sure to keep an eye on youtube.com/TheLawOfZack.  And be sure to check out the film’s website, www.amispecialfilm.com.

Why You Never Question A Drunk

February 25, 2009

I got this in an email. Don’t know who the original author is, but it’s a good one.

I was shopping at the local supermarket where I selected:

A half-gallon of 2% milk,
A carton of eggs,
A quart of orange juice,
A head of romaine lettuce,
A 2 lb. can of coffee, and
1 lb. package of bacon.

As I was unloading my items on the conveyor belt to check out,
a drunk standing behind me watched as I placed the items in front of
the cashier.
While the cashier was ringing up the purchases, the drunk calmly
stated, ‘You must be single.’
I was a bit startled by this proclamation, but I was intrigued
by the derelict’s intuition, since I was indeed single. I looked
at the six items on the belt and saw nothing particularly unusual
about my selections that could have tipped off the drunk to my
marital status.
Curiosity getting the better of me, I said: ‘Well, you know
what, you’re absolutely right. But how on earth did you know that?’

The drunk replied, ‘Cause you’re ugly.’
